Rouge.fakehdd, PUM.Hidden.Desktop, And Pum.hijack.startmenu
I had a laptop come in this week with the worst virus that I have seen in a long time. The laptop was hit with multiple viruses. Rouge.fakehdd, PUM.Hidden.Desktop, And Pum.hijack.startmenu was just a few. These viruses made it seem like the hard drive had crashed and that all the data was lost. The virus put a hidden attribute on all files and programs to make it look as if everything was gone. It even wiped out the recovery so I couldn’t even run the recovery to restore it back to factory setting. Luckily for the customer I was able to retrieve the data back to them at a reasonable cost and that the laptop was getting to the age of replacement. So instead of spending money on fixing the laptop and risking permanent damage to the hard drive due to the Viruses, I recommended them to use that money to put towards a new laptop.
